Words really cannot express what I feel right now, but I will do my best. Over the last 8 years we have had to suffer through a lot. From the loss of lives on 9/11 to the loss of our civil liberties in the name of national security, we have risked our national soul. We have lost countless lives in Iraq, we have lost respect across the world, and we risked losing our national soul.

In a country where just 50 years ago we treated black people as second class citizens, in a country where 125 years ago we did not even treat black people as people, we have now taken a huge leap forward in tearing down the walls of racism.

(I should note as I type this, several classless people in the McCain crowd booed McCain congratulating President-Elect Obama).

However, the election of Obama is not simply about race relations. At the end of the day, President-Elect Obama is not a good black man, Senator Obama is a good man, period. Race has nothing to do with his winning. He won because he had the better ideas on how to move this country forward. On taxes, healthcare, the war, Obama was the candidate who had it right. He will bring the intelligence and integrity that is sorely needed to, and has been sorely missed in, our White House.

(The McCain crowd booed again).

Barack Obama will restore America’s place in the world as a leader, not just through military strength but through diplomatic strength as well. As this campaign has gone on, I found myself amazed with how much I actually agree with Obama on many issues. And I am just so completely overjoyed that a majority of American voters have come together and agreed that he is the best person for the job.

In this year where my Wife and I are bringing a child into this world, I am just full of hope and pride, since we will be raising him in a country that has turned the page on these last 8 years. We have turned the corner and I have faith when the question is asked in 2012 “are you better today than you were 4 years ago”, that I will be able to say “yes”.

This is what I feel is the absolute maximum number of votes that Barack Obama can get.

However, this is the map that I predict will win Obama the election.

<noembed></noembed>

I also predict that Bill Jefferson will defeat Helena Moreno and move on to the general election. Personally, I have some real problems with voting with Helena Moreno (namely her acceptance of the endorsement of the R.D.O.). However, I just cannot bring myself to “vote for the crook”.

Finally, I predict that Landrieu will defeat Kennedy for the Senate seat but that the Democrats will only manage to get 59 seats (though I hope I am wrong and we manage 60).

Update: I think we may have 60 in the bag, thanks to Chambliss refering to black voters as “the other folks” who are voting. Good job Saxby. Way to show your true colors.

Democrats lead Republicans in early voting by a nearly 2 to 1 margin and account for nearly 60% of the early voters.

If McCain has any weakness in Louisiana (I am not saying he has one, but if he does) it has to be the fact that Democrats have a much better get out the vote machine so far. If this keeps up through tomorrow (the end of early voting) then election day may be very interesting.

And even if this doesn’t help Obama win Louisiana, it has to help Mary Landrieu (who just nabbed another big Republican endorsement in Dave Treen).

The Republicans are pulling all the dirty tricks out of their hats. A recent robo-call has one of McCain’s fellow POW sending a message about how Obama would be “weak” as President. Ironically, the last name of the POW is “Swindle”, something that the Republicans seem like they want to pull. The misinformation campaign by McCain and Republicans helps to harm the integrity of elections because they present lies as fact and people base their votes on them. Of course, when Republicans complain about the integrity of elections, they forget about the lies they inject into the electoral process.

But worse than the misinformation is the voter disenfranchisement. A voter in GA was informed that she was not a citizen and had 7 days to prove her citizenship if she wanted to vote. The letter was dated October 2nd. However, it was postmarked on the 9th (7 days later).

This voter “is one of more than 50,000 registered Georgia voters who have been “flagged” because of a computer mismatch in their personal identification information. At least 4,500 of those people are having their citizenship questioned and the burden is on them to prove eligibility to vote.”

However, the system to detect problems in the system is far from perfect.

In Florida, election officials found that 75 percent of about 20,000 voter registration applications from a three-week period in September were mismatched due to typographical and administrative errors.

So what about Georgia? If that high of a percentage are mismatched because of administrative errors and not because of an error on the part of the voter, then voters would be denied their right to vote because of a mistake on the part of the state. That is just plain wrong. The fact that these events are happening in states that could potentially go for either Obama or a Democratic Senator in a Republican state makes the activity very questionable.

For a party ranting and raving about maintaining the integrity of elections, the Republicans are sure doing whatever they can to ruin the integrity of this election. You do not have the moral authority to complain about any voter registration fraud on the part of left leaning groups if you are supporting voter suppression tactics.

Today, Elizabeth Hasselback, speaking at a Palin rally, falsely accused Barack Obama for being a hypocrite for supporting equal pay for equal work while supposedly not paying his women staffers equally. How did Hasselback (or whoever gave her the information) determine this? Well, they took the combined salary of all the men and divided that total by the number of men and compared that to the salary of all the women and divided that total by the number of women. I guess it never occured to her that this is an illogical way to look at the data. (And here is the data on Barack Obama’s senatorial staff payroll).

Now, using our thinking caps we can all see how Republicans are just desperately trying to find some attack to nail Obama with and they miserably.

Colvin, Nicholas M

10/01/07

Currie-Leonard, Joan M

10/01/07

03/31/08

Special Assistant

$18,999.96

Now, these are two of Obama’s staffers. This is the amount of salary they made over 6 months. Hmm, seems to me that JOAN made more than NICHOLAS. Now, unless Joan and Nicholas have some weird parents, it looks like the woman makes more than the man.

If you look at all the Staff Assistants on his payroll you will see these employees worked for Obama the entire 6 months.

Henard, Indira M

10/01/07

Staff Assistant

$15,999.96

Dyer, Vianca Monet

10/01/07

03/31/08

Staff Assistant

$14,040.30

Person, Eric C

10/01/07

03/31/08

Staff Assistant

$13,999.92

Trienens, Lillian W

10/01/07

03/31/08

Staff Assistant

$14,575.35

Now, the lowest salary is $13,999.92. The people who got paid the lowest salary are named ERIC, JASON, and INDIRA. So individually, more men than women got the lowest salary. So why does Jeffrey get paid more than Indira? Well Jeffery has worked for Obama since July 10th, 1006 (not counting his internship). Indira has worked for Obama since March 26th, 2007. Seems rather clear why Jeffery would make more than Indira for the same position. He has more experience.

Mary, who is the highest paid female staff assistant (and 2nd highest paid staff assistant overall) only makes $15,999.96 compared to Jeffery’s $18,000. Why is that? Well, Mary has worked for Obama since January 3rd, 2007. So she worked for Obama longer than Indira but less than Jeffery. So it seems to make sense that Mary would get paid more than Indira but less than Jeffery, doesn’t it?

And this goes under the assumption that if you have the same job title that you will have the same responsibilities (something that cannot necessarily be assumed).

It is obvious that the Republicans are reaching now. I really think we all need to sit back question Mrs. Hasselback’s view.
